We Can Help You Breathe Easier
An unhealthy airway is detrimental to your overall health. Adults and children can be affected by improper airway development or airway obstruction. Would you know what signs to look for to determine if you, your child, or a loved one is suffering from these serious conditions? Thankfully, we are able to not only determine if there is a problem, but we also offer treatments that can improve your quality of life. Read on to learn more about signs to look for and treatments we offer.
Airway-Centered Dentistry
Your airway is responsible for delivering oxygen to your blood, keeping your organs healthy and functioning properly, ensuring a healthy life. If there is a problem with your airway, it can affect your overall health and lead to problems such as chronic illness, diabetes, and heart disease. Adults and children alike can experience problems with their airways. Problems with an unhealthy airway can manifest in the form of mouth breathing, sleep disordered breathing, also known as sleep apnea, and TMJ disorders. Depending on the issues, we may recommend treatment such as orthodontics, dental procedures, and oral appliances. There are two appliances that we may recommend that are not as commonly known as other treatments, such as orthodontics.
MyoBrace
This device is primarily used to help children, but can also be used by adults. MyoBrace helps correct the placement of the tongue in the mouth, helping patients swallow correctly and learn how to breathe through the nose. It also helps to widen the jaw so that it can fully develop and have enough space for the teeth. For children, the hope is that the teeth will come in straight and braces will not be needed. The MyoBrace System uses a series of removable intraoral appliances that are worn for a few hours during the day and overnight.
Vivos
This appliance looks similar to a mouthguard and is a non-surgical method of treating sleep apnea. Treating sleep apnea with the Vivos Method can help improve and eliminate symptoms such as headaches, difficulty falling and staying asleep, daytime drowsiness, and gasping for air when sleeping.
