It would be nice if our teeth stayed white white forever. Unfortunately, however, even with the most diligent oral hygiene, our teeth tend to yellow over time. It’s just a natural part of aging. For those who use tobacco, teeth can become more severely stained. Other habits, such as drinking coffee and wine, also contribute to tooth discoloration.
Teeth whitening is an non-invasive treatment that involves applying a gel, most commonly a hydrogen peroxide solution, to the teeth to remove discoloration and stains. The gel acts as a bleaching agent and will lighten teeth several shades if applied correctly for the prescribed amount of time. Teeth whitening products penetrate the outer layer of the teeth (the enamel) to remove deep stains that have reached the inner layer (the dentin).

We offer our patients interested in teeth whitening the opportunity to receive their treatment in the comfort of their homes with take-home professional teeth whitening kits. Kits are customized to you and produce great results.
How does Take-Home Teeth Whitening work?
- Dr. Gray takes an impression of your teeth and records the current shade for reference
- Custom trays are fabricated based on a mold made from the impression
- You receive a kit with whitening gel, your custom trays, and detailed instructions
At Home: - Brush, floss, and rinse well
- Apply the whitening gel to the trays according to the instructions
- Place the trays over your teeth and leave them on for about an hour
Important: do not eat, drink, or smoke while you are wearing your trays and for at least 30 minutes after removing them - Repeat the whitening routine every day (or night) for about 2 weeks, or as long as Dr. Gray has instructed.
Once you have completed two weeks of whitening, you will follow up with our office to check on the progress of your treatment. If the results are satisfactory, you will only need to use your whitening kit for the occasional touch up. If you wish to lighten your teeth even further, Dr. Gray will recommend using your trays with the whitening gel for an additional time period.
