Summer Dental Tips For Children
We don’t know about you, but we are thrilled that summer is starting in a few short days! Even though it already feels like summer with the longer days and warmer weather, there is something comforting when the season officially starts. Summer is such a relaxing time. Schedules are lighter with school out of session and work may be more relaxed during this time. One area that should not be more relaxed during the summer is your oral hygiene routine. This is particularly important for any children in your life. The last thing we want is for summer enjoyment to lead to decay and dental problems in the fall. We wanted to share some tips to help your young one’s teeth remain healthy this summer:
Drink Plenty of Water
When it is hot outside and your children are playing and running around, they will want to grab a quick drink. Put the juice, soft drinks, and sports beverages aside and offer water. While these other options are delicious, they have a tremendous amount of sugar that can cause issues such as tooth decay.
Prepare Healthy Snacks
If you have children and young ones in your life, then you know that their hunger is neverending in the summer. They want to snack all day. Be sure that you are preparing and have healthy snacks on hand. Treats from time to time are fine, but overindulgence can lead to tooth decay. These snacks are great options:
- Fresh fruit
- Carrot sticks and dip
- Crackers and cheese
- Cheese sticks
- Lunch meat roll-ups
Be Sure to Brush and Floss
Even on long days when the bed is calling, it is important for you and your children to maintain the same oral hygiene routine. Brushing and flossing are a must.
