Straightening teeth serves many purposes:
Clear Aligners
- Correct a bad bite
- Treat TMJ-related dental issues
- Eliminate crowding
- Create a more aesthetic smile
When it comes to straightening teeth, we prefer traditional braces. However, some people may not be excited about having to deal with brackets and wires and want something that better suits their lifestyle. For these patients, we offer Clear Aligners.
How Clear Aligners Work
Clear aligners are made of colorless, transparent plastic and fit over the teeth, unlike braces, which are cemented to the front or back of the teeth and connected by a horizontal wire. At the beginning of treatment with clear aligners, the patient receives a specific number of aligner trays based on how long it is expected to take to achieve the desired results. Typically, the patient will wear one set of aligner trays 22 hours a day for approximately 10 days. At the end of 10 days, they move on to the next set of aligners. Each set of aligner trays is designed to shift the teeth slightly until all teeth are in the proper alignment. Once treatment is complete, the patient receives a retainer to wear to maintain the results.
Benefits of Clear Aligners
Why Choose Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are a popular choice among adults who wore braces in their teens and are seeking orthodontic treatment for a second time because their teeth have shifted out of alignment. The convenience of a removable appliance and the minimal visual impact of the clear plastic makes clear aligners an attractive option. However, clear aligners are not for everyone. For example, if you are unsure you can consistently wear the aligner trays full time and only take them out for eating, brushing, and flossing, traditional braces may work better for you. Additionally, clear aligners may not be the most effective orthodontic option in the context of a broader treatment plan. That is why Dr. Gray will only recommend clear aligners after a thorough examination and consultation to discuss your specific needs and goals.
