Can Orthodontic Treatment Do More Than Improve The Aesthetic Appearance Of The Teeth?
At the Dr. Ian Gray Dental Group, we offer a unique approach to orthodontic treatment. Many patients inquire about receiving orthodontic care to improve the placement of their teeth for aesthetic reasons, but that is not Dr. Gray’s primary concern. He focuses more on the physiological position of the teeth in regard to jaw placement and the effect it can have on oral and overall health.
At What Age Should I Start Treatment?
One of the benefits of oral care is that it’s never too late to improve the state of your oral health. The idea that orthodontics is only for teenagers has long since passed. Braces can be as effective in adults as they are in children and teenagers. In fact, many adults have wonderful results. Children benefit from treatment at an early age because it can help eliminate the need for additional treatments later in life.
Treatment Options
We have patients often ask if they can choose their own orthodontic treatment method. While we do take our patients’ requests into consideration, the treatment plan we recommend needs to be beneficial to the overall health of the mouth. We may suggest treatments such as:
Ceramic Braces
Similar to traditional metal braces, this treatment uses ceramic brackets that attach to the teeth. The difference is they can be color matched to blend in with the teeth, they are smaller, and many times they are more effective.
Advanced Metal Braces – Self Ligating Brackets
This option, also known as speed braces, does not require the small rubber bands that are typically used to hold the wire in place. The brackets themselves hold the wire in place.
Invisalign®
This treatment option uses clear aligner trays to slowly transition the teeth into the desired placement. This option is more beneficial to patients who only need to straighten their teeth. It is not ideal for patients with jaw development issues.
